Eureka! Concord gets a new hot spot
September 15, 2015
Getting a fine meal with a superb cocktail past 11 p.m. has been a near impossible feat in Concord for far too long. Thanks to Eureka!, this is no longer an issue.
Located at 1975 Diamond Blvd. in The Willows Shopping Center, this chic California burger chain has made it’s way to the outskirts of the East Bay. They are open from 11 a.m. to midnight Monday through Thursday, and extend their hours to 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
With large windows spanning the front and side of the building, the space is open and airy. The high vaulted ceilings, concrete floor, and stained wood furnishings give the space an ultra modern feel. There is bar and restaurant seating as well as a spacious patio.
Bountifully featuring 40 beers on tap – 20 of which are seasonally rotating – and an impressive bourbon collection, there are a variety of drinks on offer. All offerings are 100% American made, except the tequila, and highlight the art and beauty of the distilling and aging process.
The “Hoppy Hour” runs daily from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and features $1 off draft beers, and $2 off Buffalo Trace and Fugu vodka cocktails. Appetizers range from $2-$7, and the weekend brunch features $5 bloody marys all day long.
If you’re lucky enough to make it out on a Wednesday night, you will be offered a chance to try a featured brewing company’s selected beer in a commemorative pint glass. This time it was Drake’s Brewing Company.
One of the major highlights at Eureka! is that their kitchen stays open late. They offer a mid-priced array of Modern American fare. Starters include things like Alfredo mac & cheese, ale steamed mussels and nachos. I opted for the Lollipop Corn Dogs, $7.50.
Five huge hand dipped polish sausages on skewers arrived with a spicy mustard dipping sauce. They were like a carnival corn dog’s upscale cousin. Perfectly seasoned and deliciously deep fried. The spicy mustard helped cut the heaviness of the dish which paired well with the Drakes IPA I had chosen.
I also sampled the Mahi-Mahi tacos, $9. The fish was cooked to perfection and full of flavor. The refreshing mango salsa and avocado aioli paired beautifully. Tacos also come in a shrimp, and chicken varieties.
Eureka! also boasts a unique burger menu. Some of the more creative ones include a bone marrow burger with bone marrow porcini butter, and a bison burger with a bacon-infused jalapeño jam and smoked mozzarella, $9-$16.50.
I chose a cocktail over desert, although the chocolate espresso soufflé did sound appealing. The drink menu is kind to any cocktail novice as it describes the drinks with a flavor profile, such as savory or sweet. I went the sour route and enjoyed a refreshing bourbon cocktail with citrus and egg white.
This amazing space is a fantastic addition to the Concord drinking and dining scene. I highly recommend you give it a try. It is sure to become one of your new favorite spots, late night or otherwise.
