More than three months after an arson fire destroyed the DVC Police Services Building, Pleasant Hill and campus police have yet to make an arrest.

Surveillance videos show a lone arsonist setting fire to the lobby early on the morning of June 23 have been sent to the FBI for possible enhancement.

“We have followed-up on all of the suspect leads,” said Lt. Jose Delatorre of the Pleasant Hill Police Department in an e-mail. “No evidence has been located that will identify the suspect.” Police say they know little beyond what was on the surveillance video, including whether the arsonist had accomplices.

Asked about a possible connection to a political website, IndyBay.com, where anarchist bloggers supported the action, Det. Jason Kleven, of PHPD, said, “We are aware of that and looking into it.” At around 2:17 a.m. June 23, an alarm in the Police Services Building alerted Pleasant Hill police to a fire. Within minutes, the Contra Costa County Fire Department arrived and by 2:35 a.m. the fire was under control. No one was injured, but the building was a total loss except for the foundation. “It’s been a royal pain in the ass,” said traffic officer Adam Ruiz, who was called in early that morning to help salvage what was not destroyed by fire, smoke, and water. Since then, Police Services has relocated to the Engineering and Technology building, near to where the previous station was located. Plans are underway for construction of a new $532,800 portable that will sit on the same foundation as before. A $12,000 reward is offered for information leading to an arrest.
