Dear Inquirer,
I think that cost of school textbooks is way too high. The current price of the textbooks wouldn’t be half bad if students were guaranteed that DVC would buy the books back at the end of the semester, for a substantial amount of money, given that they are still in good condition.
During the spring 2008 semester at DVC, I spent over $600 on books. When I tried to take them back, two were old editions that they no longer needed. One, I was told to come back later, and the other three I got back a whopping $5-15 for the books, some of which I paid more then $100 for.
I do not think this is fair for any student, especially those who can’t afford the pricey books in the first place.
It is also becoming harder and harder to find the necessary books discounted, so students are almost forced to pay full price.
I know that a large majority of students will agree with me when I say that the price of college textbooks are too high, and there needs to be a way we can either lower the cost, or guarantee a better buy-back rate.
Sincerely,
Minee Brown
DVC student
