The heavy downpour set a mood for DVC’s 2-7 loss to Modesto College on Oct. 30.
This was the sixth game out of seven the team will play before competing in the Big 8 tournament.
“We are in a solid seventh place out of eight,” said head Coach Rick Millington.
Millington said the team is having problems in conference play, because it lacks a strong offense.
“We don’t have a dominant offensive person,” Millington said. “Last year we did, this year we don’t, and it makes a huge difference”
In the game against Modesto, the team managed to get off several shots, but only scored twice. In a previous game against Modesto, DVC lost 3-12. Goalie Jill Armstrong attributed the change in the score to an improvement in the team’s defense.
“I feel like we played much better this time,” Armstrong said. “Our defense was better, and [offensively] we got quite a few shots off.”
The team had a record of 11-7-0 during the non-conference season, but had has a 1-5 record in the conference. Currently the only win the team has, is one against Sacramento, who is currently ranked eighth. The team in sixth is San Joaquin Delta College.
So while it appears as though the team will not be moving in rank before the Big 8 tournament, the final rank has not been decided yet. The team’s performance in the Big 8 tournament which begins Nov.7 in Sacramento will definitely affect how they rank in the conference overall.
“We can move up in conference,”Millington said.
