Traffic lights can be a pain.
When the light is red, stop.
When the light is green, walk – or in this case, dance.
“Foot Traffic Permitted” is a dance production that features a variety of exciting new dance numbers coordinated by DVC’s dance instructors.
But be warned, there’s no such thing as a red light on the dance floor.
Dancing is “permitted” and these performers are ready to show the world exactly what they’re made of.
“This is our show that shows everyone, ‘This is what we have to offer and there’s more to come,'” said dance teacher Kimberly Valmore. “It’s an opportunity for dancers to present their hard work. It’s an opportunity to see just what DVC’s dance program…has potential to do.”
The performers range from seasoned dancers with flawless partnering skills to those just picking up the craft.
Dance instructors worked closely with their students all semester to prepare for this performance.
The program is jam-packed with an array of styles including jazz, tap, lyrical, contemporary, salsa and Latin numbers. There will also be a snazzy Broadway routine by dance teacher Sherry Stockfield, inspired by a rarely performed musical, “Kismet”.
The performance will not only showcase the students’ talent and the choreographers’ creativity, but it will be a chance to share their passion for dance with the audience.
“Dance is all-inspiring,” said Valmore. “The things that those dancers are communicating to you are real-life – they’re from the heart and it’s genuine.
“We want [the audience] to get the sense of just how beautiful life is, and that is presented on the stage.”
As a special treat, the program will include a big production number celebrating the recent presidential election.
“It’s a great collection of material you wouldn’t see,” said Valmore. “In fact, you’ll only see it once a year, and this is it.”
“Foot Traffic Permitted” opens Dec.12 and runs through Dec. 14. Performances are at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday in the Performing Arts Center.
