The DVC baseball team had a bad week, with five consecutive losses to tarnish its earlier 12-2 record, including a 7-0 defeat by first-ranked Sacramento City College on Feb 28th.
Prior to that, the team was rated second in Northern California with a 12-2 record, its only losses against Ohlone and Los Medanos colleges.
But in a single week, DVC fell to Mission, Canada, Cabrillo and Delta colleges, and then Sacramento City College.
In the game against Sacramento City, the team played what Head Coach Mike Neu considered a boring game to watch.
“I never got excited one time watching this game,” Neu said.

The game started poorly for DVC, with the team making three errors in the second inning. Three throwing errors to the bases allowed for Sacramento City players to steal bases until they scored.
By the end of the inning, the score was 4-0, with three hits for Sacramento, one hit and three errors for DVC.
Throughout the next four innings, the score never changed. And by the end of the sixth inning, Sacramento had four hits and one error, to DVC’s three hits and three errors.
In the seventh inning, a Sacramento City player hit a grounder towards third base that the umpire called fair, allowing him to get a double. After three more of Sacramento city’s players were up to bat, their score went to 6, while DVC stayed at 0.
The final score was 7-0 after Sacramento City scored one more run in the ninth inning, finishing the game with nine hits to DVCs four. Sacramento City made one error to DVC’s three
Overall, the Vikings were not happy with their performance.
“We started [the season] off good, and this last week we kinda collapsed as a team,” said pitcher and first baseman Ryan Palsha. “It felt terrible. This was the first game we didn’t score a run”

Despite the recent losing streak, the team is still pushing to win conference, state and league championships.
“I think it’s realistic, if we played to our potential,” Neu said. “But [right] now we’re not doing that.”
Pitcher Michael Cavalli agreed the team has the potential.
“We probably have the most talented game in our league,” he said. “It’s just a matter of getting out and playing on the field.”
Their next game is March 7 against American River College at home.
