College basketball’s March Madness tournament is the best sporting event of the year. Nothing is more exciting than watching 64 teams compete for that one dream.
Many of you might say the Super Bowl is a million times better than the NCAA tournament.
The Super Bowl is the most hyped-up, drama-filled game of all. But its main flaw is that most of the star players today only play for money and fame.
Take the Dallas Cowboys, one of the most talented teams in the NFL. But star player Terrell Owens has brought unwanted drama and broken up team unity, leading to the Cowboys’ failure to make the postseason in 2008.
Owens has shown that he puts himself before the team, engaging in shouting matches with his coaches and teammates and putting priority on his individual statistics over his team’s success.
Players like Owens are found too often in professional sports. But college sports are built on team unity.
College athletes aren’t playing for multi-million dollar contracts. Most will never get that chance to turn professional. So for these college players, the tournament is their one and only chance to win a championship.
That sense of urgency comes right through our TV’s, as the clock winds down in the second half. These athletes are playing for school, family and that once in a lifetime chance to cut down the nets.
College basketball is filled with players like Tyler Hansbourgh of the North Carolina Tar Heels. Hansbourgh bleeds his school colors. He could have turned pro early, but he wanted to stay to experience his senior year.
Ty Lawson of North Carolina also chose to stay for his senior year. Lawson would have been an early selection in the NBA draft. But Lawson decided to stay with teammate Tyler Hansbourgh to bring a championship to Chapel Hill.
The 64 team NCAA tournament brackets are very interactive for fans. The brackets allow fans to pick the winner of every game leading up to the championship. Nothing is more exciting than seeing the upset that you picked come to life.
So fill out your brackets and get ready for another intense and exciting year of March Madness.
