This past weekend the DVC Speech and Debate team traveled to the University of the Pacific in Stockton. 

Twelve members joined together in Novice, Junior Varsity and Open (Varsity) events such as: Persuasion, Program Oral Interpretation, Impromptu, Parliamentary Debate, Policy Debate, Dramatic Duo, Informative, Extemporaneous Speaking and Speech to Entertain. 

Among these categories various people advanced into finals and won several awards. 

Lelah Smick won a finalist award for Informative Speaking, Byron Cordoba and James Michaelson won a quarterfinalist awards for Junior Varsity Parliamentary Debate and also received awards for best speakers.

The team had a very successful weekend and plans on extending those successes to the next tournament that will be held at CSU Northridge on November 19-22. 

All persons interested in checking out the team are encouraged to come to PAC 106 for team meetings on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Stay posted for the upcoming results!
