In an effort to minimize unnecessary committees, DVC’s College Council voted Monday to eliminate the Enrollment Management Committee. During the meeting, Council members decided unanimously to dissolve the committee immediately.
The committee’s responsibilities included developing strategies to manage the college’s enrollment, recommending budget allocations to implement enrollment strategies and implementing the college’s Enrollment Management Plan.
DVC’s Vice President of Instruction Susan Lamb says she doesn’t think the college will be affected by the decision as “We already have other committee’s covering those functions.”
As the Enrollment Management Committee hasn’t met for over a year, many of its responsibilities are being covered by the Matriculation Committee and the Dean of Enrollment.
While the Contra Costa Community College District has requested an enrollment management plan in the past, council members agreed that the Enrollment Management Committee does not need to exist as a standing committee.
According to Bill Oye, the Dean of Student Life, there isn’t money to inject into the campus and, consequently, a source of funding for the Enrollment Management Committee.
Council members agreed to discuss in the future whether committees need to be standing or temporary.
