At the latest annual Northern California Conference for the Journalism Association of Community Colleges, hosted at San Jose State University, the Inquirer received a slew of awards to add to their collection.
In addition to four awards for on-the-spot contests, the Inquirer took home seven awards for the mail-in competitions, netting a total of 11 awards that day.
The on-the-spot awards included two, second place awards for features editor Scott Baba and news editor Julius Rea for Editorial Cartoon and News Judgement and Layout, respectively.Editor-in-chief Jonathan Roisman was awarded third place for his on-the-spot News Story and Staff Writer Kevin Hayes received an honorable mention for his on-the-spot News Photo.
In the mail-in competition, editor-in-chief Annie Sciacca won first place for editorial writing, and third place awards went to Sciacca and Baba, jointly, for Inside Page Layout for Broadsheet and to Rea for Front Page Layout for Broadsheet.
The awards were rounded out by a second place for Opinion Story and third place for Column Writing by former staff members Chris Clark and Christian Villanueva, respectively, as well as two honorable mentions for former staff member Christopher Long for Editorial Cartoon and News Story.
