An automobile theft took place yesterday at 11 a.m. in the DVC parking lot. The owner of the car was walking to his vehicle from class when a friend noticed that his blue Honda Accord was leaving the parking lot and heading down Golf Club Road towards Contra Costa Blvd.
The Pleasant Hill Police report explains that the police received a call from the students at 11 a.m. and began searching for the stolen vehicle. They found the car driving down Contra Costa Blvd. toward Taylor Blvd. The officers attempted to catch up to the suspect in traffic, but the driver fled.
After a short vehicle pursuit, the driver turned onto Dexter Dr. into an apartment complex where he parked the car and proceeded to flee the scene on foot. The officers quickly caught up to him and were able to take him into custody.
The suspect has been identified as a 14 year-old runaway. The Pleasant Hill police suspect that he may have driven to DVC in a different stolen vehicle that he abandoned on arrival. No further reports on this possibility have been made at this time.
After making the arrest, the Pleasant Hill police turned the suspect over to the DVC campus police, where he was charged with vehicle theft, possession of burglary tools and possession of an illegal substance.
The student’s car was returned to him with no damage; the only change was that the radio station had been changed in the commotion.
