On a late Sunday night, April 22 at 9:30 p.m., fire trucks arrived as smoke filled the air above the El Pollo Loco in Concord.
Daisy Sandoval, Concord, was enjoying her food when she said “Everyone just kept saying ‘get out, get out.’” At first she had no idea what was going on but listened assuming it was for good reason.
Another guest, Melissa Biez was with her family. She said “We were eating and the chicken started to catch fire. The worker put water on the chicken but the fire started to get worse. My dad noticed and we all got out.” She continues, “My dad started yelling for everyone to get out.”
Later, via ContraCostaFire on Twitter, PIO wrote, “Commercial structure fire at el pollo loco 4401 Clayton rd. #Concord..kitchen fire.”
The fire fighters had the fire under control in less than 10 minutes. Hoses were brought inside and the kitchen fire was taken down.
People swarmed the area taking pictures and watching the firefighters extend their large ladders onto the roof to get better access to the fire.
Another tweet by Steven Senatori (@senatori) read, “El Pollo Loco in Concord is on fire! Lots of firetrucks! @CCtimes” There was at least four fire trucks and two paramedic vehicles at the scene.
When asked if everyone got out alright, a worker that will remain anonymous said that everyone was fine and no one was hurt.
