There was a crowd of students in front of the library and the Student Union surrounding an event promoting students’ knowledge on what animal
treatment in America looks like.
The 10 Billion Lives Tour is a campaign by Farm Animal Rights Movement (FARM), which is working to end the use of animals for food.
The one dollar bill you got by watching the video comes from private
donors who support the idea of “less meat, more vegetable,” according to Todd Lee, tour operator of 10 Billions Lives.
”We are encouraging to people to get educated about the treatment of animals on
farms in America…most people don’t realize how bad the treatment is,” Lee said.
FARM criticizes current American
animal agriculture system itself is wasteful in that water, greenhouse gases,
fertilizer and so on.
”That’s really bad for environment, too,” Lee said.
It seemed like a shocking video for those who watched it.
“It was really sad,” said Tania Iribe, an 18-year-old psychology major. “We just thought that
we should eat less meat.”
Because there are people who fund money for this campaign, it is true their
movement is happening and getting broader right now as well. It might be a good
opportunity for all DVC students to re-think about the food issue.
