Although the Vikings put up a valiant effort, it wasn’t enough to take out the strong offense of the Ohlone Renegades on Tuesday’s game, Ohlone winning 5-2.
The Vikings tried their hardest, but even head coach Steve Ward admitted, “We didn’t pitch particularly well. Our relief pitchers did, our starting pitcher didn’t. But Ben had been really good up until that point, he just couldn’t throw the ball over the plate that day. But our relief pitchers kept us in the game.”
Pitcher Ben Brown’s head must have been elsewhere, but he did what he could despite it. After the Renegades scored three runs in the top of the second inning, he managed to pick his game back up, and keep them from scoring any more runs on his watch.
Coach Ward said, “Our pitching has been our strength, I think we have the eighth ranked pitching staff in the state, but offensively we still haven’t clicked yet, and I think we’re capable of that.”
For second baseman Eddie Aguayo, this doesn’t seem to be much of a problem. He scored a run in his second inning, and made it to third plate in his third. Offense appears to be one of his strong suits.
However, Aguayo can’t be the only offense. Coach Ward had this to say about scoring: “When you’re not scoring runs, when you make a couple errors, it sticks out like a sore thumb, if you’re scoring runs, who cares, but it’s exemplified because we’re not scoring runs, so every error we make seems like it really hurts us.”
Regardless of the team’s ability to score runs, they have done well so far in their season. Despite this recent loss, the 6-4 Vikings are third in their conference and it looks like they will continue to do well. It’s just a matter of the offense and pitching working together to win games.
