Diablo Valley College’s lacrosse club opened up their 2014 season with an impressive offensive performance.

The team crushed the visiting Santa Rosa Junior College Bear Cubs with a 23-6 victory on Thursday, Sept. 25, leading them to a 1-0 start to the season.

The Vikings came out strong early on, scoring seven goals in just the first quarter.

The team went on to score five more times in the second quarter leaving the score 12-2 at the end of the half.

After the half, the Bear Cubs were able to score two quick goals, but DVC would sustain pressure and never give up the lead.

The Vikings would score 11 more goals despite having many second and third string players in.

Since Santa Rosa is one of DVC’s biggest rivals, the victory was a gratifying win.

Midfielder Jordan Louis believes the game went well and that the team was definitely prepared.

“It seemed like we were working as one unit,” he said. “We had the first, second, and third lines score points through out the game.”

Midfielder Cameron Toy feels that the team did a really great job moving the ball and running plays.

“We executed our plays and did the things that we worked so hard on in the preseason,” Toy said. “Everyone on the team got to play and that was awesome.”

After winning the California Junior College Lacrosse Association championship last year, the Vikings are expecting to repeat as champions.

“This year I expect the same thing; we should do it with ease,” Louis said. “We’ve got more players this year and we are only going to get better.”

The Viking’s quickly get back to work to prepare for their next game against St. Mary’s College at 7:15 p.m on Oct. 4th at DVC.
