Women’s volleyball celebrates a sweep against Cosumnes River
November 4, 2014
The Diablo Valley College women’s volleyball team celebrated a three-game sweep in their Oct. 29 match against the Cosumnes River College Hawks. With the win, the Vikings remain third in the Big 8 Conference and now have a conference record of 5-4.
DVC started and finished the three-game sweep strong with final scores of 25-17, 25-10 and 25-12.
Head coach Jacqueline Ponciano-Babb was very pleased with how the team played and could see that they were trusting each other on the court.
“We basically were the ones to dictate play, so I tried to get them to focus on making sure everything we did was done well,” Ponciano-Babb said.
Right-side hitter Amanda Jarquin feels that they beat the Hawks in three sets because they were relaxed and having a good time.
“We were all having fun, we were taking risks and not being timid,” Jarquin said. “I think that’s what really pushed us ahead.”
Libero and defensive specialist Kanoe Pruett felt that the team played at ease together.
“Our last game was a hard one for us, so this game was a nice little breeze,” Pruett said.
Outside hitter Kaitlyn Welsh says that notes and homework from a previous match against the Hawks paid off.
“At practice yesterday we worked a lot on our serve receive because we have been struggling with that,” Welsh said. “We also took notes the last time we played them, and then we practiced according to that.”
The Vikings will have their next conference game at 6:30 p.m. on Friday Nov. 7 at Santa Rosa Junior College.
